Every year I like to participate in a local program called Pens to Lens. What is Pens to Lens?
Pens to Lens is a program in the Champaign-Urbana area that brings students, film-makers, and designers together. Students from grades K-12 submit screenplays to a screenwriting competition. Professionals then donate their time and some of the screenplays are made into short films by Champaign area film makers with local designers creating the movie posters. The event culminates in an annual gala where films and posters are presented to the community with a red carpet event at the Virginia Theatre.
Get Involved
Every year that I work on posters for Pens to Lens, is a great experience. Reading through the students’ screenplays, you see so much creativity. It’s also a really cool seeing local film-makers bring these stories to life. I really wish there was a program like this when I was in school, It does a great job to encourage creative writing.
I’d like to encourage anyone in the area to get involved in next year’s Pens to Lens event. Whether you have a child interested in writing, you are interested in film-making or acting, or you are a designer that loves poster design.
Below, you can see some of the designs that I’ve put together over the last couple of years.
